If you use charts in your presentations, you can animate the components of the chart. Depending on the chart, you have up to five animation possibilities:
- As one object-Animates the entire chart.
- By series-Animates each data series individually. For example, if you have a bar chart that shows quarterly sales figures by region, you can display the bars one quarter at a time.
- By category-Animates each data category individually. For example, if you have a bar chart that shows quarterly sales figures by region, you can display the bars one region at a time.
- By element in series element-Animates each data marker in each series one marker at a time. For example, if you have a bar chart that shows quarterly sales figures by region, you can display the bars for each region one quarter at a time.
- By element in category-Animates each data marker in each category one marker at a time. For example, if you have a bar chart that shows quarterly sales figures by region, you can display the bars for each quarter one region at a time.
Follow these steps to animate a PowerPoint chart object:
- Select the chart object.
- Choose Animations, Custom Animation.
- Click Add Effect, click an effect category, and then select the animation effect you want.
- In the animation list, drop down the chart animation’s menu and then click Effect Options. PowerPoint displays a dialog box of options for the effect.
- Click the Chart Animation tab.
- In the Group chart list (see Figure 1), click the animation option you want.
- If you choose an animation option other than As One Object, PowerPoint enables the Start Animation By Drawing the Chart Background check box. If you want the chart background to be the item that displays when you first click the mouse, leave this check box activated. If you prefer that the chart background display on the slide before you start the chart animation, deactivate this check box.
- Click OK.
