Entering a Field at the End for Easier Editing in Access 2007

When you view a table in Datasheet view, you can use the keys shown in Table 14.3 to navÂigate the fields and records.

When you use these keystrokes to move into a field that already contains data, Access selects the data. This makes it easy to replace the data because all you have to do is start typing the new value. However, what if most of the time you want to edit the existing field value? In that case, you need to press F2 to get the cursor inside the field. Rather than perform this extra step every time, you can configure Access to immediately place the cursor at the end of the field when you navigate to it using the keyboard. Here are the steps to follow:
- Choose Office, Access Options to open the Access Options dialog box.
- Click Advanced.
- In the Behavior Entering Field group, click Go to End of Field.
- Click OK.
Note
After you activate the Go to End of Field option, you can no longer use the left arrow and right arrow keys to navigate from one field to another. Instead, you can only use Tab and Shift+Tab to navigate fields horizontally.
