The Case:
Today we live in a near ‘cashless’ era. We use debit or credit cards, automatic deposits and wire transfer. They are good and convinient to use. But they don’t make it easy for us to stick to a family budget. We rarely see our own money. t’s easier than ever to spend, spend, spend!
You think it’s now imperative to start monitoring your expenses and get your family on the path to financial health. Then it’s the time to start budgeting. However, you feel hesitate to invest on a budget software such as Microsoft Money and Quicken. Both are indeed powerful, but keeping track of your family budget can be a daunting work. Is there any Microsoft Excel template available? ![]()
Tune Up:
A budget is essentially a summary of lists of intended expenses and expected incomes. An easy way to keep track of your budget and rein in spending is to use cash for your monthly expenses. We can start by making a basic budget with a few broad categories. But don’t get too fancy with your budget categories; the hassle of deciding where a particular expenditure fits may prevent you from continuing with your record-keeping.
The aim is to strike a balance between income and expenses. Setting up a family budget can be different from one family to another based on their specific needs. Regardless, you can use the the following Microsoft Excel family monthly budget template.
The budget categories in this template fall within the following categories:
Housing, Transportation, Insurance, Food, Children, Pets, Personal Care, Entertainment, Loans, Taxes, Saving or investments, Gifts and donations, and Legal
Every conceivable expense needs to be calculated as you work through the process to set a family budget. Don’t forget to include a monthly savings goal in your budget and have that amount automatically withdrawn from your paycheck and deposited in an account.
